Tired Eyes? Here’s Why I Love PRF + RF for Under-Eye Rejuvenation

“I just feel like I always look tired—even when I’m not.”I can’t tell you how many times I hear this from patients. And honestly? I get it. The under-eye area is one of the first places we see changes in our skin—dark circles, puffiness, crepey texture, and that hollow look that seems to show up overnight.
That’s why I love using Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF)—sometimes paired with radiofrequency (RF) skin tightening—to help my clients feel like they look more rested, fresh, and confident.
What’s Going On Under the Eyes?
That tired look can come from a few things:
Loss of collagen and elasticity (which happens with age, stress, sun damage… and life)
Thinner skin, which makes veins and dark circles more visible
Volume loss in the mid-face, making the under-eye look hollow
Lifestyle factors like poor sleep, allergies, or dehydration
The good news? You don’t always need filler to fix it. In fact, filler under the eyes isn’t always the best option. That’s why I’m such a fan of PRF.
What Is PRF and How Does It Work?
PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) is made from your own blood. I draw a small sample in the clinic, spin it down in a special way, and use the nutrient-rich layer that contains growth factors, white blood cells, platelets, and fibrin.
Think of it as a slow-release collagen-stimulating treatment. It’s totally natural—no additives, no foreign substances—and it helps:
Brighten dark circles naturally
Improve crepey or thinning skin
Boost collagen and elasticity through your body's own healing
Add subtle, natural volume over time
PRP vs. PRF: What’s the Difference?
If you’ve heard of PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma), you’re not alone! PRP was the original go-to, but PRF is the next generation. Here’s how I explain it during consults:
PRP is spun quickly, which separates plasma from red blood cells—but it can lose some of the regenerative cells.
PRF is spun more gently and slowly, keeping more white blood cells, stem cells, and a fibrin matrix—that means slower release, better healing, and more collagen stimulation.
In simple terms? PRF is more natural, longer-acting, and more effective for delicate areas like under the eyes.
What Does Radiofrequency (RF) Add?
RF skin tightening uses gentle heat to stimulate deeper collagen production. When paired with PRF, it enhances your results by:
Improving skin firmness and texture
Boosting circulation to the area
Creating a lifted, tighter look over time
It’s completely non-invasive, relaxing, and feels like a warm stone massage under the eyes.
What to Expect from Treatment
Quick, in-clinic treatment
Little to no downtime
Some mild swelling or puffiness for a day or two is normal
Best results seen in a series of 3 sessions, spaced a few weeks apart
Collagen continues to build for weeks after
It’s one of my favorite treatments to recommend because it’s subtle, natural, and effective—perfect for anyone who wants to look fresher without looking like they’ve had “work done.”
