IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is a light based therapy, safely delivering light energy deep into skin to regenerate skin and improve the appearance of various skin concerns. It is a great option for those looking to address multiple skin concerns at once and allows for a customized treatment for you individual needs. At Renovaré Hydration and Wellness, we are proud to offer IPL with the Viora V20. The V20 has a patented cooling technology to help cool your skin quickly at the time of treatment, increasing comfort for you and allowing for an effective procedure without the need for anesthesia or numbing cream.

After an IPL treatment, pigment in the skin will darken, indicating an effective treatment. This will be especially noticible in the areas where hyperpigmentation may have been noted. The body will heal and those dark spots will fade as new tissue is generated. There may be mild heat or redness immediately after your treatment, similar to a light sunburn, but these shouldn't last for more than a few hours. You can apply sunscreen, lotions and makeup as needed right after your treatment, there is no need to wait.

A few days after your treatment, your skin may feel somewhat rough as the old skin is sloughing off. There may be some dry skin. While everyone is different, typically at 7-10 days, you should have full healing of skin and your skin should feel smooth and healthy again. Your final results will be revealed around 4 weeks post treatment.

How to care for yourself after IPL:
After IPL, there will be no open wounds and therefore no need for significant changes to your daily routine. Always follow your providers instructions after your treatment. Here are a few general guidelines to help you.
-
Be sure to wear sunscreen daily, at least SPF 30. Avoid direct sun exposure.
-
Hydrate your skin often with a good quality moisturizer
-
Wash with a gentle cleanser, there is no need for any antiseptics or harsh cleansers
-
Use warm water, avoid hot water
-
Wait a few days prior to using retinol, exfoliants or any other active ingredients
-
Be sure to avoid picking or scratching at the areas on your body that may be peeling. This could halt the healing process and even lead to infection.

Typical post IPL healing timeline:
-
Day 1- skin is red, blotchy, has a sunburn feeling and darkening of spots/pigmentation starts
-
Day 2-3- skin is feeling tight and dry and the dark spots are looking like “coffee grounds”
-
Day 4-6- skin is especially dry due to the dark spots starting to slough off and starting to gradually fade
-
Day 7-10- continual sloughing and fading of dark spots, but skin is returning back to normal and is looking more even-toned, radiant, and healthy. YES!

Did you know IPL can also tighten the skin?
In addition to improving discoloration, treating acne and helping with scars, IPL treatments are also known for their skin-tightening effects. The light that is not absorbed by the pigment scatters throughout the skin, and actually heats up the water in the tissue that creates a collagen-stimulating effect. This collagen-stimulating effect can help with diminishing fine lines and wrinkles over time and tighten the tissue overall. IPL can be done on any part of the body (i.e. neck, chest, arms, legs), too! Read more about how IPL can tighten the skin by clicking the button below.
